Safety
Advisory Committee
Meeting Minutes July 28, 2005 EMU Alsea Room Attendees: Michelle Wygle, Kay Coots, Steve Hecker, Ernie Pressman, Don McIntyre, Michelle Gillette, Cheryl Henderson, Steve Pelkey, Paul Bruch, Kathy Viscarra, Avis Thompson, Tom Hicks, Dana Winitzky The June minutes were approved. Accident and injury reports were reviewed and discussed. There were two time loss claims in Housing in June. Old Business Michelle Gillette distributed three Workers’ Compensation reports covering the last three fiscal years. The reports compared total number of claims, number of time loss claims, current claim cost in dollars, and approximate percentage of total claim cost for Housing, Facilities Services, and one for other departments. Michelle noted that the cost of claims may change somewhat after the end of the year if employees need additional services. Costs may include medical costs, payments for time loss, award for partial disability, and vocational services. New Business Kathy pointed out that there is some concern about bike safety at the ASUO Street Fair. Signs are posted that do advise riders to disembark and walk bikes on the sidewalk; however, people still ride down the middle of the fair. The committee suggested that more volunteers be hired to help enforce the rules. Tom said that more citations could be given out or bike corrals could be established to help encourage parking and walking. Kathy will provide the ASUO with these suggestions. The next Safety Advisory Committee meeting will be held in the EMU Alsea Room on Thursday, August 18th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Kay Coots R.S., CSP Environmental Health and Safety Director Phone: (541) 346-5421 E-Mail: kcoots@uoregon.edu |
