Subcommittee Report

Policy Review:  The subcommittee met on January 11th and covered four more policies.  Mark distributed copies of the next set of policies to be reviewed

Inspection:  The next inspection will be scheduled at the close of the meeting.

New Business

Oregon-OSHA complaint:  Kay reported that we have received a new complaint involving Friendly Hall.  The complaint states that the basement is constantly flooded with standing water.  Also the back wall of the office wall consists of a rock and dirt mixture that was chipping and wet.

Kay explained that there have been two major rain events in the last two months and flooding occurred in the basement at that time.  This area is only accessible from the outside stairs.  The entry area is not covered so the rain falls onto the stairs and runs down into a two inch drain.  Most of the carpet had been removed in the past and replaced with tile.  Work will be conducted this summer to improve perimeter drain system and seal wall.

She commended Facilities Services’ custodians and Ernie Svensson’s quick response to the flooding situation.  One of the things done to promote quicker drying time was to remove the bottom part of a sheet rock wall.

Kay’s response letter to OSHA will describe what was found, what was done, and how the hazard will be addressed.

Inclement Weather and Grounds Crews:  Janice commended the Facilities Services’ grounds crew for making the campus safe during the snowy and icy weather in early January.  She really appreciated the great job they did.  Bob added that he was very proud of the way the Athletics’ crew responded.  Sue said Housing also did an excellent job.

The committee asked Michelle Wygle to address a letter of commendation to the administration.

The next Safety Advisory Committee meeting will be held on February 15 in the EMU Board Room from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
